Unlike carbon steels, whose chemistry houses just two elements, alloy steels may contain multiple elements. The combination of said elements is decided by both the buyer as well as the alloy steel round bar manufacturer in China before being produced. Divided into both high and low alloy steels, the ASTM A182 alloy steel rod exhibits mechanical properties, that are of a much higher level in comparison to regular carbon steels. For instance, low-alloy 4150 alloy steel round bar contains an addition of elements chromium and molybdenum that act as strengthening agents in the material.
Just like alloy 4150, 4130 alloy steel round bar has similar chemistry, with the exception that the latter has a higher content of both manganese and carbon content. Properties such as high fatigue strength, good toughness, good abrasion and impact resistance, as well as torsional strength are properties synonymous with low alloy steel round bar 4140. On the other hand, 4340 alloy steel round bar is low alloy steel with inclusions of elements chromium, nickel and molybdenum, which is heat treatable to achieve properties such as high toughness and strength.
HSLA steels are produced keeping in mind the materials mechanical properties, without adhering to any set of specified chemistry. This is probably why the high strength low alloy steel round bar offers higher mechanical properties as well as even greater resistance to corrosion in comparison to conventional carbon steel. The typical applications of a hot rolled alloy steel round bar include those areas where precise shapes and tolerances are not mandated.
