While different ASTM Fasteners Standards are used in the manufacture of fasteners in different quality, there are some common grounds noted in most of the ASTM specifications. For instance, one commonality noted between different ASTM Bolt Standards is with regards to their use at varying temperatures and their applications.

 Intended to be used for general corrosive applications, the astm f593 fasteners cover bolts, hex cap screws, and studs manufactured in stainless steel. Before being withdrawn in 2016, the specification astm a325 fasteners covered high strength heavy hex structural bolts. Whereas astm f837 fasteners cover both martensitic as well as austenitic stainless steel grades produced in metric socket head cap screws. On the other hand, commercial wrought nonferrous bolts, hex cap screws, and studs are covered by astm f468 fasteners could be produced from a number of alloys.

High temperature or/and application astm a193 fasteners are manufactured from either stainless steel or alloy steel. The astm a153 fasteners are specifically coated with zinc through a hot drip process. But the astm c1063 fasteners are used in applications involved with cement based plaster, particularly the installation of lathing and furring. Not forgetting the astm b633 fasteners which deals with electroplated components, well suited to be used predominantly in highly corrosive environments.

Hence, most astm fasteners manufacturers are able to cater to the requirements of the application using a set of guidelines presented bt the astm fasteners specification. Very often, the fasteners astm definition would also contain testing parameters in addition to the process details and the chemistry of these bolts.
