HSS or High speed steels are classified as tool steels, which could be used in the manufacture of tools for cutting. Typically, the High Speed Steel Rod is used in the manufacture of power-saw blades and drill bits. One of the benefits of using this carbon steel grade is that they can withstand elevated temperature settings and not lose their temper or what is referred to as hardness. This high hardness is a property that permits Hss Round Bar to drill or saw across at a faster rate in comparison to high carbon steels.

Other properties that are linked to High Speed Steel Carbon Steel Bright Rods include high hardness and resistance to abrasion. Although the addition of elements tungsten and vanadium in the alloy of CS High Speed Steel Round Rods has been associated with imparting the rods with superior abrasion resistance properties. Some manufacturers may include cobalt in the alloy of these steels. While cobalt also increases the hardness, the primary property enhanced by this particular element is the heat resistance behaviour of Carbon Steel Hex Rods.

As expected of most forged products, the surface of these rods become much smoother in addition to the grain flow getting aligned to the shape of High Speed Carbon Steel Forged Rods. The most popular application that uses High Speed Steel Round Rods is woodturning, since the acceleration of the inclination of work past the threshold is relatively high, especially for handheld tools. Furthermore, the HSS material tends to hold its edge for a far greater period in comparison to high carbon steel tools.

Alloying Elements Present in High Speed Steel Rod

1 Carbon : forms carbides, increases wear resistance, is responsible for the basic matrix hardness.
2 Tungsten and molybdenum: improve red hardness, retention of hardness and high temperature strength of the matrix, form special carbides of great hardness.
3 Vanadium: forms special carbides of supreme hardness, increases high temperature wear resistance, retention of hardness and high temperature strength of the matrix.
4 Chromium: promotes depth hardening, produces readily soluble carbides.
5 Cobalt: improves red hardness and retention of hardness of the matrix.
High Speed Steel Rod Application

  • High performance Gear Cutting Hobs Shapers, Milling cutters, Bevel tools,
  • all kinds of highly stressed twist bits and taps, shaped shear blades for working high strength materials, broaches.
  • Cutting tools for roughing or finishing, such as: helical bits, milling cutters of all types, taps, dies, spindles, reamers, thread rolling tools, drill bits, circular saw segments. Impact tools and those used for working wood.
  • Cold forming tools such as dies and punches for cold extrusion and cutting and fine cutting tools.
