More importantly, the AISI 01 Die Steel Square Rods will retain their hardness properties up to an elevated temperature setting of 425 °C. The air hardened (IS-T90Mn6WCr2) Round Rods typically contains an unusually high content of chromium that ranges between 10% and 13%. This higher content of chromium in its alloy is what makes the d2 tool steel rod a very durable and high end product. The chromium-rich alloy carbides in the CS D2 Forged Rods is what grants the alloy its excellent resistance to wear, especially when exposed to sliding contact with other metal or materials that have an abrasive exterior.
The very high chromium content in D2 Steel Round Rods provides the alloy with better resistance to corrosion as compared to most tool steels. Thus enabling the CS Round Rods to be semi-stainless steel grade. Often machined in an annealed condition, the AISI 01 Tool Steel Round Rods demonstrates little distortion on correct hardening. d2 tool steel welding rod could be used for long run tooling applications, particularly in those areas where wear resistance is deemed to be an important characteristic, such as blanking or forming dies as well as thread rolling dies.
