ASTM F467 Grade 5 Nuts

ASTM F467 is a specification which covers the terms for the production of commercial wrought nonferrous nuts. The nonferrous metal is a material that contains no iron in their chemistry. The various shapes of ASTM F467 Nuts included in this specification are hex nuts, square nuts, coupling nuts, lock nuts etc. They are available in nominal thread diameters size ranging between M6 to M36. Since the ASTM F467 Heavy Hexagon Nuts are non-ferrous based alloys, various types of materials are used in their products ranging from nickel, brass, aluminium, copper, lead, tin, titanium, zinc, and precious metals like silver and gold may also be included.
As the properties of different ASTM F467 Square Nuts vary, they could be modified to suit requirements pertaining to general service applications. Materials which are used in the manufacture of thee nonferrous specified ASTM F467 Coupling Nuts have to be tested. Moreover, they must also conform to certain requirements as given in the said specification. Usually, parameters of the ASTM F467 Grade 5 Nuts alloy checked must include the materials chemical composition, proof stress, hardness, proof load, as well as tensile stress requirements.
The materials used in the construction of ASTM F467M Lock Nuts will decide its properties. For e.g., if aluminium is the product that has been used, the product will be light in weight and have low density. But if an alloy like brass is used in the production of F467 Hex Nuts, the material yields resistance in seawater and is well suited for marine engineering.

A Elements shown as balance shall be arithmetically computed by deducting the sum of the other named elements from 100.
B Copper plus specified elements = 99.8 min; copper plus silver = 88.5-91.5.
C Cobalt is to be counted as nickel
D Minimum content of copper plus all other elements with specified limits shall be 99.5%.
E An alloy containing as high as 2.5% silicon is acceptable provided the sum of all the elements other than copper, silicon and iron does not exceed 0.30 %.

A Tensile stress areas are computed using the following formula: As = 0.7854 [D- (0.9743/n)]2
Where:
As = Tensile stress area, in.2,
D = Nominal size (basic major diameter), in., and,
n = number of threads per inch.
