Hex nuts or hexagonal nuts are a six sided fastener. Similar to most nuts, these fasteners are internally threaded. The threads in the inside of ASTM A194 Grade 6 Nuts are of a metric thread pitch. These threaded fasteners are available without heat treatment. For sizes that range between M16 and smaller, the ASTM A194 Grade 6 Heavy Hex Nuts are produced with a chamfer on both the top as well as the bearing surface.

On the other hand, if the size of the fasteners falls above the M18 range, the ASME SA 194 Gr 6 Heavy Hex Nut could available in any of the two following manners. First, the nuts could be double chamfered. Or in the second option, the ASTM A194 Grade 6 Washer may have a chamfered surface on one side, with the other side having a washer face. These fasteners are combined with fasteners like screws and bolts that belong to a property class of 6.8 or lower.

The chemistry of these SA 194 Gr 6 Nuts must strictly adhere to the contents of elements in their alloy, especially the contents of carbon, phosphorus and sulfur. Lastly, it is required that the ASTM A194 Gr 6 Nut must conform to the specifications of tests such as proof of load tests,  Hardness tests, as well as the cone proof load tests
