This could mean that the EN45 rods could be processed by cold drawing or centreless turning. Due to a long list of efficient and reliable en45 mechanical properties, the alloy is a very common sight as a part of gas turbine engines. Usually, gas turbine engines have been subject to high temperatures. Hence, the en45 steel bar used as a part of their construction would require properties such as high strength, excellent high temperature resistance to creep, phase stability, fatigue life, resistance to oxidation as well as resistance to corrosion.
The en45 round bar is also available as EN 45 Pb, which has lead added for enhanced machinability. EN45 flat bar is widely used for the production of components which require superior surface finish with the need for a high rate of production. The EN45 black bar is an alloy which exhibits good hardness and increased stability in tempering. While the material is difficult to weld, in order to achieve a high quality welded seam, the welding rod for EN45 is to be heated to a temperature range between 200 – 300°С prior to welding, followed by annealing.
