Titanium on its own is an element that is known to exhibit superior properties. When used to alloy metals, they are able to achieve better characteristics, namely, the heat resistant behaviour and higher tensile strength of 316Ti Steel Cold Finished Bars. Referred to as marine grade, the alloy exhibits resistance to halide compounds, particularly those containing chlorine and bromine. Chlorine compounds are often a part of stream water sources, and vessels or components like JIS SUS 316Ti black bar which are used for marine engineering purposes benefit from their use.
Similar to grade 316l, the alloy for ss 316Ti bright bar is suited for applications involving welding operations. During welding, the carbon reacts with titanium, thus forming titanium carbides on the surface of the AISI 316Ti threaded bar instead of carbide precipitates. In comparison to carbide precipitates, titanium carbide is much stable. The DIN 1.4571 square bar is also resistant to sensitization at the grain boundary. Hence, the rate of intergranular corrosion in its alloy sees a decline. Another significant property of the ASTM A479 UNS S31635 hex bar is it’s superior resistance to oxidation.
Moreover, the rate of scaling in compared to other 316 alloys is much lower in the 316Ti stainless steel round bar. Like most 316 variants, this stainless steel has better properties than grade 304, and hence the bar for corrosion resistance in the 316Ti stainless steel welding rod is much higher, with an increase in cost as well. Yet, compared to 316L, the addition of titanium in its alloy makes the astm a276 type 316Ti flat bar more expensive. Though the properties of titanium outweigh its expensive cost when used as an alloyant, it increases the overall cost of the alloy, making it on some occasions a difficult choice for the buyer. Hence, if properties like weldability, as well as elevated temperature use, is important, the buyer may choose to select 316Ti stainless steel rods.
