PH 15-7 Mo is a precipitation hardening alloy, which is referred to as a semi austenitic stainless steel because it is formed in a soft austenitic condition. This precipitation hardened Ph 15 7 Mo Stainless Steel Round Bar is well suited for applications that require superior strength in conjunction with moderate corrosion resistance properties.
The chemistry of AMS 5520 Steel 15-7MO Hex bar is similar to alloy grade 17-7. However, the main difference between the two is the substitution of 2% Molybdenum for 2% Chromium in its alloy. This significant substitution of elements in the DIN 1.4532 Threaded Bars results in higher room temperature as well as elevated temperature strength for this stainless steel. After forming the alloy of UNS S15700 Square bar in a soft austenitic condition, the stainless steel may then be hardened to high strength levels with the use of a low temperature heat treatment.
This processing technique permits a minimal level of distortion in the SS 15-7MO Flat bar in comparison to other processes that involve quenching and temper hardening. To optimize strength requirements, the Ph 15 7 Rod may be furnished in the heat treated hard-rolled Condition C to condition CH900, which proves to especially be useful for applications with a limitation in both ductility and workability.
